Actor Kenichi Endo attended a press conference in Tokyo on April Getsuku for the TV Asahi Thursday drama "Unsolved Cases: Metropolitan Police Department Document Investigator Season 3" (Thursdays at 9 PM, starting April 16th). As soon as he took the stage, he greeted the audience by saying, "Even though I'm an actor, I'm not good at memorizing lines," which drew laughter from the crowd.
Endo said with a wry smile, "Before starting this project, I played a judge in another project. The lines were incredibly difficult (laughs). In this project, I play a quiet character, but when I do speak, I say difficult things. I'm overwhelmed every day."
He also testified about the incredible memorization skills of Yuna Kuroshima and Ryubi Miyase, who are new additions to this production. "They say that when they look at the script, it sticks in their minds as if they've taken a photograph. I've heard of people like that before, but to have them all appear in this production at once is astonishing," he said.
He mentioned that Kuroshima has a lot of lines in episode 6, and when he asked her, "Do you have about two days to memorize them?", she replied, "No, it's 30 minutes" (laughs)! I was like, "Wow, that's amazing." I felt like the biggest newcomer on set and was completely overwhelmed (laughs).
"Unsolved Cases: Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department Document Investigator" is a mystery series in which detectives investigate unsolved cases using written documents as clues. It started in April 2018, and this is the third season, approximately six years later. Amid a crisis threatening the survival of the 6th Section (Document Deciphering Section) of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department's First Investigation Division's "Special Investigation Task Force," brilliant detective Narumi Risa (Kyoka Suzuki) and her younger superior, the new section chief Mutsu Hinako (Kuroshima), team up as partners to tackle difficult cases.
The press conference was attended by the lead actor, Suzuki, as well as Kazuki Sawamura, the original author Kazushi Asami, and the screenwriter, Mika Omori.
