The final episode (episode 12, "Kimengumi on That Day") of the new TV anime adaptation of Motohide Shinzawa's gag manga "High School! Kimengumi," which was serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha) in the 1980s, will air on Fuji TV's anime block "Noitamina" at 11:30 PM on March 27th. The manga was previously adapted into a TV anime from 1985 to 1987, making this the first anime adaptation in approximately 39 years.
Looking at a small park near the school, the Kimengumi and Chie reminisce about playing there in the past. Yui, who has just transferred to the school, is a little envious of those old memories. Meanwhile, everyone decides to watch a video of Rei running an errand, recorded by Rei's father, Takuseki. On the screen, Rei is in first grade of elementary school. The Kimengumi were formed when they were in middle school, but having grown up in the same town, they were actually closer than they thought. And among the children that young Rei met that day was a certain girl.
The new anime will be directed by Ryo Seki, known for films such as "Blank Canvas: My So-Called Artist's Journey" and "Beethoven Fabrication," and produced by Animation Studio Seven. Tomokazu Seki Ichido, Shunsuke Takeuchi will voice Go Hiyoshi, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka will voice Chiaki Kobayashi Kikunosuke Toya Totani will voice Dai Monoboshi.
The original manga began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1980 as "3-nen Kimengumi," and was retitled "High School! Kimengumi" in 1982 as the characters advanced to higher grades. It is a school comedy featuring the Kimengumi, a group of five famous students who attend a middle school: Ichido Rei, Hiyoshi Go, Dese Kiyoshi, Ooma Jin, and Monoboshi Dai, along with Kawase Yui and Uru Chie.
