It was revealed on March 18th, the same day that the final episode of the 1997 TV drama series, "Detective Aoshima Forever," aired, that the movie "Bayside Shakedown NEW" (directed by Katsuyuki Motohiro), starring actor Yuji Oda, will be released on September 18th.
The "Bayside Shakedown" series, since its television drama debut in 1997, has set itself apart from previous police dramas by depicting the hierarchical structure, power dynamics, and human relationships within the police force, creating a social phenomenon. The following year, in 1998, the film "Bayside Shakedown THE MOVIE" was released and became a massive hit, grossing over 10 billion yen. The second film in the series, "Bayside Shakedown THE MOVIE 2: Blockade the Rainbow Bridge!", released in 2003, grossed 17.35 billion yen and reigned as the top-grossing live-action Japanese film for approximately 22 years until it was surpassed by the film "National Treasure" last November.
The new series, "Odoru Daisōsasen NEW," premiered last October. While the storyline hasn't been revealed, a scene filmed that same month has been released showing Shunsaku Aoshima (played by Oda) running through the streets of Shinjuku while being chased by 400 extras.
The latest visual has also been released. It shows a young Aoshima from the 1997 TV series, dressed in a suit, and the current Aoshima, wearing his familiar "Aoshima coat," standing back to back, with the tagline "In 2026, the incident will happen in the theater!"
