It has been announced that Ayaka Katayama's manga "Kin to Tetsu," currently serialized in "Bessatsu Shonen Magazine" (Kodansha), will be adapted into a TV anime. This dystopian science fiction work depicts a society controlled by "fungi," and has been highly praised for its human drama, profound worldview, and themes that question "what is freedom?" and "what is a human being." A teaser visual for the anime has also been released.
The story is set in a world where "fungi" have parasitized the human brain, erasing freedom, thought, and emotion. It follows the story of Dante, a soldier who has not lost his sense of self due to his imperfection, who encounters the rebel organization Aether. The series began serialization in Bessatsu Shonen Magazine in March 2021.
The original author, Katayama, commented, "'Kin to Tetsu' is being made into an anime...! When I first heard about it, I was skeptical, but now that it can finally be announced like this, I'm still savoring the joy that it's true...!"
"I'm really grateful to everyone involved in the anime production for the way they've so diligently shaped the world of 'Kin to Tetsu' with the scenario and various visuals that we've already received. I'm always excited to supervise an anime! And it's all thanks to all of you who read the manga that I've been given this opportunity...! As a viewer, I'm looking forward to seeing how Dante and the other characters come to life and this slightly (S) mysterious (F) world will be portrayed in the anime! Please look forward to it!"
