The first episode (broadcast on January 18th) of the TBS Sunday Theatre drama "Reboot" (Sunday 9pm), starring actor Ryohei Suzuki, surpassed 4.86 million views in the eight days since its release on the commercial TV streaming service "TVer" (measurement period: January 18th to January 25th, 2026, according to TVer DATA MARKETING). This broke the all-time record for the most views of the first episode of any drama ever streamed on TVer.
The previous record was 4.62 million views for the first episode of Fuji TV's "Monday 9pm" drama "The Beginning of the Sea" in July 2024 (measurement period: July 1st to 8th, 2024, same source), which was the first record in about a year and a half.
"Reboot" is an original work that popular screenwriter Kuroiwa Tsutomu spent three years planning. It is a suspense story about a kind-hearted pastry chef, Hayase Riku, who is framed for the murder of his wife, but abandons his beloved family and past to pose as a corrupt Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department detective, Gido Ayumu, in order to prove his innocence and find the real culprit. Suzuki plays both the good-hearted pastry chef who has lost his wife and the corrupt detective.
