The 85th episode of the NHK morning drama "Bakeke" (General TV, Monday to Saturday 8:00 AM and others), starring Takaishi Akari, was broadcast on January 30th, and viewers were drawn to Shoda's (Hama Masago) proposal words.
Encouraged by Toki (Takaishi) and Heaven (Tommy Bastow), Shoda decides to confess his feelings to Sawa (Marui Wan). As Sawa is studying alone at the Shiratori Club, Shoda, dressed in a suit, rushes in and begins to explain, "I wanted to be the first to tell you, Osawa."
Shoda reported, "Actually, I just met with His Excellency the Governor of the prefecture. I asked him if I could be an English teacher at Matsue Junior High School, and he agreed." Sawa congratulated him, saying, "Shoda-san, you're teaching, so you're cool. I think it's a good idea. Congratulations."
Shoda makes up his mind and confesses, "Let's become husband and wife. I'm in love with you, Osawa." He continues, "That's why I've decided to become a teacher. Starting next month, I'll earn 25 yen a month. With that, I'll pay off your debts and move out of the tenement house." Sawa mutters, "The tenement house...?"
The scene changes to Sawa, who is outside the tenement house, gazing at the view across the river. When Toki arrives, Sawa confesses, "I was so happy... so happy... I felt like I was in heaven... or rather, I was already in heaven... I didn't have the slightest reason to refuse... I just couldn't grab him... His hand... I just couldn't grab him no matter what." She sobs into Toki's chest, "I loved him so much... It's all your fault, Toki... it's all your fault!"
Shoda honestly confessed his feelings, while Sawa wanted to leave the tenement house on her own. Viewers who had predicted the couple would tie the knot were shocked, with comments on social media such as "Shoda! The proposal was too early!!" "He got the timing of the proposal wrong," "I wish he had waited until Sawa had passed the teacher's exam," "They are a good match, so I hope they get married," and "Once he becomes a teacher, please propose to him again."
Attention was also drawn to Shoda's proposal words, with various comments being made, such as "He stepped on a landmine when he suddenly said, 'Let's pay off our debts and move out of the tenement...'", "The line about paying off our debts was unnecessary", "He didn't need to say it now - in fact it would have been better if he hadn't said it at all - he's too honest!", "It's honest that he proposed to Osawa, prepared to take on all of her family's debts", and "Shoda is such a good guy. He's a man we should never have let slip away".
