It has been announced that a popular Korean web manga has been adapted into a live-action Netflix series, "Dokuji Kenka," which will be released worldwide on May 28th. This youth entertainment series follows a high school student at the bottom of the school hierarchy who confronts the world's injustices in a unique way: by streaming his own fights. Starring Suzuka Hiroshi, the series also stars Mikami Ai, Sugo Araki, Asakawa Rina, Nagata Takuro, and Harada Mieko.
The original work is "Kenka Dokuji," an original webtoon on LINE Manga. It was created by PTJ cartoon company, headed by manga artist T. Jun, and illustrated by Kim Jeong-hyun. It's a popular work with a cumulative total of 540 million views in Japan and 2.28 billion views globally (both as of January 2026). It was selected as a "Jury Recommendation" in the Manga category of the 25th Japan Media Arts Festival, sponsored by the Agency for Cultural Affairs, and was adapted into a TV anime series in 2024.
Suzuka plays the protagonist, Shimura Kota, a high school student at the bottom of the school hierarchy. He has endured daily hardships, including his mother's hospitalization due to a serious illness, poverty, and being targeted by delinquents at school. However, one day, he accidentally gets into a fight with a classmate, which is broadcast live to the whole world, causing an unexpected buzz. Learning that "fighting = money," Shimura launches a live streaming channel called "Dokutei Kenka" (Self-Studying Fighting) and begins his "overthrow of the ruling class for money."
The film will be produced by director Takeuchi Hideki, who also directed "Fly Me to the Saitama" and "Cells at Work," and screenwriter Tokunaga Yuichi.
