It has been announced that a new film, "Agito: Psychic War," based on the special effects drama "Kamen Rider Agito," which aired from 2001 to 2002, will be released on April 29th. Jun Kaname, who played Kamen Rider G3/Hikawa Makoto in "Agito," will star in the film for the first time in about 25 years. The original cast, including Riki Kasumi, who played Kamen Rider Agito/Tsugami Shoichi, Hitomi Fujita, Jun Yamazaki, Akira Shibata, Takeshi Masu, Rina Akiyama, Toshimasa Tanabe, and Takanori Higuchi, will be reuniting for the film.
The "Kamen Rider Movie Project," which aims to produce a new film to commemorate the 55th anniversary of Kamen Rider's birth, has been launched, and 11 candidates have been announced, which has been a hot topic among fans, and it has now been revealed that the new film will be "Kamen Rider Agito." The new film, "Agito: Psychic War," will remove "Kamen Rider" from the title and aims to be a new, innovative work that breaks away from existing frameworks. It will be rated PG-12 and will be a psychic action blockbuster that adults can enjoy.
The story is set in a world where people are beginning to awaken to "psychic powers" one after another. In the midst of this chaotic situation where many people are using these powers to commit crimes, police officer Makoto Hikawa (Kaname) takes action. As with the TV series, the film is directed by Ryuta Tasaki and written by Toshiki Inoue.
Kaname, whose acting debut was in "Agito," commented, "I am truly happy and honored to be able to return to this world as the lead for the first time in 25 years, in this milestone year marking the 55th anniversary of Kamen Rider and the 25th anniversary of Agito. Agito was the starting point of my acting career, and the beginning of my challenges and growth. I approached the work with the passion I felt at the time, as well as the feelings I can now express, after all the time has passed. I would like to present this film with gratitude to everyone who has supported me for many years, and to everyone who created this miraculous opportunity."
Kashu said, "As an artist, I am deeply moved that Agito will be carrying the important title of '55th anniversary of the birth of Kamen Rider', and I am truly honored to be able to return as 'Agito' once again. I was surprised when I heard that a new work had been decided, but the moment I read Inoue-sensei's script and reunited with my colleagues from back then on the set, the Tsugami Shoichi within me was awakened all at once. See you in theaters on April 29th for 'Agito: Psychic War'."
Producer Shirakura Shinichiro commented, "What is Kamen Rider's 'transformation'? Does it involve a physical change, or is it the mask and suit that are put on? 55 years on, and we still don't have an answer. But it is precisely because it is ambiguous that it is a Rider. A Kamen Rider is someone who crosses the shaky boundary between human and monster. Hikawa Makoto, played by Kaname Jun, does not transform. He does not have any special abilities. He simply wears a powered suit over his flesh and blood body. But still, he crosses the boundary with a strong will. It's our 55th anniversary, and we want to deliver a story of 'transformation' that only a Rider can tell."
A Teaser trailer was also released, depicting people who appear to have awakened to psychic powers and using them as they please, along with the messages, "Humanity Awakens" and "The moment a person obtains power, they become a 'monster.'" A teaser visual showing the half-destroyed head of Kamen Rider Gills was also released, along with the tagline, "Humanity Awakens."
