Additional cast members have been announced for the TV anime "PSYREN," based on the psychic battle action manga by Toshiaki Iwashiro that was serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha), with Takeuchi Shunsuke, Soma Saito, and Nozuyama Yukihiro joining the cast. Takeuchi will play Asakawa Hiryu, a high school student the same age as Yoka Ageha and Amemiya Sakurako, Saito will play Mochizuki Oboro, a popular actor who, despite his good-looking appearance, seeks the "fun" of life without regard for danger, and Nozuyama will play Kirisaki Kabuto, a playboy who loves money and girls.
Takeuchi commented, "I've been hoping for this to be made into an anime for many years, so I'm really looking forward to bringing it to everyone as soon as possible! Ageha is always flying around, complaining about it. I think the atmosphere of the original has been well-translated into the film, so I hope you'll look forward to it! Spiky dragon hair! Thank you!"
Saito said, "I love the original work and have been hoping that it would be made into an anime someday, so I am truly happy to be involved as the voice actor for my favorite character. As a fan, I can't wait for the broadcast! I hope that many people will watch it! Thank you very much!"
Nozuyama commented, "I did my best during the voice recording to express his humorous, cute, cool, and charming sides without holding back! Everyone's been waiting for this to be made into an anime, right? I can't wait for it to be released to everyone! I hope you enjoy it!"
"PSYREN" was serialized from 2008 to 2010 and has remained popular for 16 years, even now, having been nominated three times for the "AnimeJapan" poll "Manga People Want to See Adapted as an Anime." The story follows high school freshman Ageha Yashina, who gains access to the secret society Siren, rumored to be the mastermind behind a series of "spirited away" disappearances occurring nationwide, and begins a life-threatening game.
The film will be directed by Katsumi Ono, who has worked on the "Senki Zesshō Symphogear" series, and produced by Satelight, the studio behind the "Aquarion" and "Macross" series. The film will star Rikuya Yasuda as the protagonist Ageha Yashina and Mayuko Kazama as the heroine Sakurako Amemiya.
