The third episode of NHK's "Drama 10: The Uncertain Court of Themis" (General TV, Tuesdays at 10pm), starring actor Matsuyama Kenichi, will be broadcast on January 20th. Shinomiya Eri (Ito Ao) files a lawsuit against her father, a transport company driver, over a fatal accident he caused.
"The Uncertain Courtroom of Themis" is based on a unique legal mystery by Sho Naoshima. It is a courtroom drama about a judge with a developmental disorder who struggles with his own unique characteristics while taking on complex cases. The screenplay is written by Hideya Hamada, who has also written the Fuji TV series "Ichikei no Karasu" and the "Absolute Zero" series.
Matsuyama plays the protagonist, Ando Kiyoharu, who was diagnosed with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) and ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) as a child and, based on his doctor's advice, learned how to communicate and behave in a "normal" way. Unable to fit into society due to his developmental disorder, Ando became a judge because the law is the only rule that remains constant regardless of individual characteristics. He believed that by studying law, he could become a part of society. However, he was afraid of interacting with others because of his uncontrollable impulses to speak without reading the mood or act impulsively. However, he truly wants to understand other people's feelings and integrate into society.
In episode 3, Sakuma, a driver for Yamimi Transport, is killed in an accident while on the job, involving a passerby. His daughter, Shinomiya, files a civil lawsuit against the company, claiming that excessive work was the cause, but the company claims that Sakuma was negligent. Shinomiya's lawyer, Hozumi (Yamamoto Mirai), has high hopes for the direction of the case from Judge Kadokura (Kenichi Endo), known as the "legendary rebel."
Meanwhile, Ando (Matsuyama) makes a mistake due to his own characteristics that affects the trial, and he begins to wonder whether he should continue being a judge.
