The NHK BS period drama "Fuurai Cloud," starring actor Sasaki Kuranosuke, will begin airing on January 4th. The period drama is based on the manga of the same name by George Akiyama. Sasaki will play the vague and elusive protagonist, Fuurai Cloud.
The story is set in Shinagawa-shuku at the end of the Edo period. The story follows the eccentric man "Fuuraigumo," who wears a woman's kimono and wears his hair tied in front of his forehead. While living his days freely with an elusive, airy appearance, he unwittingly changes the destinies of others in a gentle way. This is a hymn to humanity filled with laughter and tears.
Kana Kurashina plays Kame, the wife of Furubumi Kumo, a generous and charming woman who embraces Kumo with deep affection, while Eito Kawahara plays their son Shinnosuke, who is serious but also has a childlike side. Other cast members include Issey Ogata Ogata, Gota Watanabe, Naomasa Rokuhei, Tomoya Maeno, and Noriko Nakagoshi.
The first episode is titled "That Man, the Circle-Turning Man" and will be broadcast on NHK BS and BS Premium 4K from 7 p.m.
During the late Edo period in Shinagawa, Fuurai Kumo (played by Sasaki), the owner of Yumeya, a transportation business, lived with his wife Kame (played by Kurashina) and son Shinnosuke (played by Kawahara). He left the business entirely to his clerk, Yokujiro (played by Issey Ogata), and was drifting about, but he was well-liked by everyone in town. Then, Boss Jirocho of Shimizu (played by Kato Masaya) appeared, and the town erupted in excitement.
Meanwhile, Fuuraigumo learns that Tachibana-ya, the tool shop run by Otama (Inatomi Kotone), the woman Shinnosuke is in love with, has been forced into a difficult situation after being forced to buy a fake Ieyasu armor and helmet...This is the story.
