Singer-songwriter Aimyon appeared at the 76th NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen Gassen, held at the NHK Hall in Shibuya, Tokyo on New Year's Eve last year. Her short hair, which she had cut off by 50 centimeters, attracted a lot of attention on social media.
During an interview during rehearsal, Aimyon revealed that she had cut 50 centimetres of her hair about a month ago, saying, "I've been growing my hair for about four years now because I wanted to donate it. If I was going to grow it out anyway, I wanted to donate a lot of it. Now that I've reached my 10th anniversary (of my debut), I thought it would be okay to cut it now."
This was her seventh appearance on Kohaku, where she performed her 18th single, "Venus Belt," which was released in October. Comments on social media included, "Her short hair is cute," "She's so cute with her short hair!!!," "She's so damn cute, I'm shocked," and "She looks like a different person! So cute."
The theme of the 76th NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen was "Connecting, Connecting, New Year's Eve," and the event was hosted by Hiroiki Ariyoshi, Haruka Ayase, Mio Imada, and announcer Naoko Suzuki.
