A special trailer for the crime action film "Outlaws" (directed by Christian Gudegast, scheduled for release on January 23, 2026), starring actor Gerard Butler, was released on December 23. The trailer includes comments from Butler, co-star O'Shea Jackson Jr., and director Gudegast.
This film is a sequel to "The Outlaw," which was released in 2018. It was released in the US in January this year and recorded the highest box office revenue on its first day (according to BOX OFFICE MOJO). A third film has already been confirmed.
As in the previous film, Butler stars as unconventional detective Nick O'Brien, who captivates viewers with his tense gunfights and clever tactics. Jackson Jr., son of rapper Ice Cube, will reprise his role as Donnie Wilson, Nick's nemesis and the most dangerous robber he ever let go. The film will be directed, executive produced, and written by director Gudegast, who was highly praised for his previous work.
Nick (Butler), a Los Angeles County Sheriff's detective on leave, heads alone to Europe to track down Donnie (Jackson Jr.), who went on the run after a bank robbery. Nick learns that Donnie is working with a criminal organization that is repeatedly committing thefts, and he becomes embroiled in a grand plan to rob the world's largest diamond exchange. Various schemes and betrayals intertwine, and the story develops into an unexpected alliance... and so it goes.
In the special video released this time, director Gudegast talks about the relationship between Nick and Donnie, saying, "This time, it's essentially a buddy movie." Jackson Jr. excitedly says, "Gerald is so cool! It's great to be back with you and Gerald," while Butler humorously comments, "His (Jackson Jr.) villa was bigger (when filming on the island), and he still complains about it." He adds, "In the previous film, he was constantly punching Donnie. It's good to see them as enemies, but it's also really interesting to see them deepening their bond (by working together)."
