The title of the 12-episode theatrical re-edited version of the short anime "Galaxy Express Milky Subway" has been decided to be "Galaxy Express Milky Subway, Local Train to the Theater," and it has been announced that it will be released in theaters on February 6, 2026. A trailer featuring characters such as the cyborg Chiharu and the cyborg Makina has been released on YouTube.
"Galaxy Express Milky☆Subway" is a sequel to "Milky☆Highway," a short 3D animation released on YouTube in 2022 as a graduation project by Kameyama Yohei, who was then a student at a video vocational school. It was broadcast on television from July and is also available on YouTube, where it has garnered over 150 million views on the official YouTube channel, proving popular. The theatrical version will be a re-edit of all 12 episodes, with new scenes added.
Director Kameyama commented, "It still hasn't really sunk in, but when it was decided that the film would be made into a feature film, I went to the cinema again. The sense of realism and immersion in the space of a theatre was incredible. I've been trying to make the additional scenes as good as possible, and it's been a bit of a challenge because I've overstated myself (laughs), but I'm working hard to make sure that people leave the theatre satisfied. I'm looking forward to seeing what they think."
