The dubbing for the new animated film "Gintama: The New Movie - Yoshiwara Enjou," based on Hideaki Sorachi's popular manga "Gintama," has been completed, and Tomokazu Sugita, who plays Sakata Gintoki, Daisuke Sakaguchi, who plays Shimura Shinpachi, and Rie Kugimiya, who plays Kagura, who play the three members of Yorozuya, have provided comments. A new cut featuring the three members of Yorozuya has also been released.
Sugita commented, "After 16 years, I'm sure there are many things I've forgotten, but I think it has become something to look forward to when I remember it again. It has definitely changed. Please enjoy the new 'Gintama: The New Movie - Yoshiwara in Flame.' In this day and age, it's amazing to call it a 'Great Flame.'"
Sakaguchi said, "I'm sure everyone's emotions will be different when they watch this new movie than when the anime was first broadcast. You may find yourself rooting for Hirun, or understanding Housen's feelings. I think it will be interesting to watch it again now that you understand a lot of things you didn't understand as a child back then! I personally had a lot of fun doing the dubbing, so I hope you'll look forward to it."
Kugimiya said, "We recorded this epic story 16 years ago, which we created together with everyone through weekly dubbing sessions, at a furious pace in just a few days (laughs). We did our best and gave it our all! I would be most happy if everyone simply enjoys it and experiences it from various angles many times."
The new film is a brand new anime adaptation of "Yoshiwara Burning Arc," one of the most exciting and memorable episodes in the original manga's history. The story is set in the underground red-light district of Yoshiwara, where Gintoki, Shinpachi, and Kagura of the Yorozuya family enter a city that has lost its light and is now under the control of the "King of the Night," Housen. Directed by Naoya Ando and produced by BN Pictures, the film is scheduled for release on February 13, 2026.
"Gintama" is set in a fictional Edo, and the story follows Sakata Gintoki as he solves various cases brought to the general store with his friends Shinpachi and Kagura. The series began serialization in December 2003 in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha), and the final episode aired in June 2019.
The first season of the TV anime aired from 2006 to 2010, the second from 2011 to 2013, the third from 2015 to 2016, and the fourth from 2017 to 2018. The animated feature films "Gintama: The Movie - The Red Cherry Blossom Arc" was released in 2010, and "Gintama: The Movie - The Final Chapter - Be Forever Yorozuya" was released in 2013. The film "Gintama: The Final" was released in 2021. The TV anime "3rd Year Z Class Ginpachi Sensei", based on the spin-off of the "Gintama" spin-off "Gintama: 3rd Year Z Class Ginpachi Sensei", is currently airing on TV Tokyo.
