"Hagio Moto Sketch Collection I: 'The Poe Clan' and the Fantasy World" (Shinchosha), a collection of treasured sketchbooks by manga artist Hagio Moto, known for works such as "The Poe Clan" and "Thomas' Heart," was released on November 27th. The book contains approximately 170 carefully selected sketches from the 200 or so sketchbooks that Hagio has collected over the course of about 50 years. The price is 4,070 yen.
The book includes sketches from the "Poe Clan" series, "Golden Lilac," "The Iguana's Daughter," "Demigod," the "Ballet Palette Roman" series, and "Queen Margot," among others, and also includes cuts from before her debut, notes that appear to be different versions of famous works, and unknown characters. The book also includes Hagio's latest interview and commentary on the sketches.
The sequels, "Moto Hagio Sketch Art Collection II: 'There Are 11 of Us!' and the Science Fiction World (tentative title)" and "Moto Hagio Sketch Art Collection III: 'Tomo's Heart' and the Drama World (tentative title)" are scheduled to be released after spring 2026.
