It has been revealed that the popular wine manga "Kami no Shizuku" will be adapted into a TV anime. It will be broadcast and streamed on TOKYO MX, Kansai TV, and other channels in 2026. This will be the first time the work has been adapted into an anime. It has also been announced that Kamenashi Kazuya, who played the main character, Kamisaki Shizuku, in the TV drama that aired on Nippon TV in 2009, will also star in the anime. Kamenashi will be playing Kamisaki Shizuku again after about 16 years. It has also been revealed that Takuya Sato will play Tomine Issei, Uchida Maaya will play Murasakinohara Miyabi, and Ginga Banjo will play Kamisaki Toyotaka.
"Kami no Shizuku" is a manga written by Shin Kibayashi, the manga author behind many hit works such as "Kindaichi Shonen no Jikenbo," and written under the pen name "Aki Nao," and illustrated by Shu Okimoto, the creator of "Psycho Doctor Kai Kyosuke." "Kami no Shizuku" was serialized in "Morning" (Kodansha) from 2004 to 2014, with the final chapter, "Mariage: Kami no Shizuku Final Chapter," serialized from 2015 to 2020. A sequel to the series, "Kami no Shizuku deuxième," began serialization in the same magazine in September 2023.
The heart-wrenching human drama surrounding the legendary wine "Drops of God" and its easy-to-understand explanations, even for wine novices, have sparked a wine boom and earned it the nickname "the gold standard of wine manga." The series has sold over 15 million copies worldwide. In 2023, Season 1 of the Japanese-French-American co-produced drama series "Drops of God," starring actor Tomohisa Yamashita, will begin streaming. Season 2 of the series will be available exclusively in Japan on Hulu on January 23, 2026.
Shizuku Kamisaki, played by Kamenashi, is the daughter of Toyotaka Kamisaki, a world-renowned wine critic, and has received special education in wine since she was a child. She rebelled against her father and got a job at a beer company, avoiding drinking wine, but after her father's death and his will, she is drawn into a showdown over the legendary wine "Drops of God" and enters the world of wine.
Kamenashi said that this will be the first time he plays the same main character in both a live-action drama and a TV anime. "It's been 16 years since I played Shizuku in the TV drama, and I'm facing this role again. When I think about the time that has passed since then, I feel a truly deep connection to this role. There are many new experiences for me on set this time, and I receive a lot of inspiration from the staff and co-stars at every recording session. Just like Shizuku, I want to see myself in this character, learning about an unknown world and moving forward one step at a time, and do my best to the end," he commented.
"I am truly happy to be able to once again be a part of the globally loved "Drops of God" series. During this new journey, I hope to gain more depth and spend time opening up as a person. I hope everyone will look forward to it."
Kibayashi Shin and others commented under the name "Aki Nao," saying, "The information has finally been released; it was hard to keep quiet (laughs). After all, it is only when a manga is made into an anime that it can take flight into the world. We are also looking forward to Kamenashi Kazuya, who played the main character Shizuku when it was made into a Japanese TV drama in 2009, reprising his role as the voice actor for the same role. Also, from January 23rd next year, season 2 of the Japanese-French-American international drama "Drops of God," which won an International Emmy Award, will begin streaming in Japan.
