New behind-the-scenes and stills have been released for the film version of "Last Man -First Love-" (directed by Shunichi Hirano, scheduled for release on December 24, 2025), a adaptation of the TV drama "Last Man -The Blind Investigator-" starring Masaharu Fukuyama, which aired on TBS's "Sunday Theater" (Sundays at 9:00 PM) in April 2023.
The screenplay for "Last Man: The Blind Investigator" was written by Tsutomu Kuroiwa. It is a thrilling drama in which Hiromi Minami, a blind FBI special agent who is a people-pleaser, played by Fukuyama, and Shintaro Godo, a detective who will stop at nothing to arrest the criminal, played by Yo Oizumi, team up to tackle difficult cases.
The protagonist, Minami Hiromi, lost sight in both eyes due to an accident in the past, but is now a highly skilled special agent at the FBI, known as "the last man" who always solves cases and has solved numerous cases. Minami, who has come from the United States, is assigned to attend to him by the lone detective Godo Shintaro. The two, with different titles and personalities, gradually join forces to become an "invincible buddy" who solve cases. Towards the end of the drama, the past connection between Minami and Shintaro is revealed, and the shocking truth is revealed: the two are actually brothers.
The official trailer, released the other day, revealed the outline of the difficult case the invincible buddy team will be taking on in Hokkaido. In addition to Izumi Godou (played by Ren Nagase) and Yuki Azuma (played by Mio Imada), who are reprising their roles from the TV series, new characters have also been revealed, including Minami's first love, Nagisa Ivanova (played by Rie Miyazawa), a world-renowned engineer who is being pursued by a mysterious organization, her daughter Nina Ivanova (played by Rui Tsukishima), and FBI Special Agent Clyde Yoon (played by Rowoon), who views Minami as a rival.
Filming for this film began at the end of December last year. On the first day, shooting took place on the set of the Metropolitan Police Department's Special Investigation Headquarters, with Oizumi, Nagase, Imada, Matsuo Satoru, Tomoya Oku and other members of the First Investigation Division all in attendance. Also appearing was Rowoon, a popular Korean actor who joined the team this time. When Oizumi arrived at the studio, he immediately greeted the set by imitating the actor, saying, "I'm Rowoon from Korea," which put the atmosphere at ease. Rowoon then greeted him again and was welcomed by the team with a smile.
The newly released behind-the-scenes and stills show Oizumi and Nagase kindly watching over Rowoon as he practices his Japanese lines. The introductory scene, which spans about eight pages of the script, was filmed, including the first interaction between Yoon (Rowoon), who came from the FBI as an exchange trainee after Minami, and Azuma (Imada), Izumi (Nagase) getting anxious after seeing the two of them, and Shintaro (Oizumi) being told he will be heading to Sapporo where Minami (Fukuyama) is waiting.
The film begins two years after Minami (Fukuyama) returns to the United States after completing his training. Minami returns to Japan, and upon receiving a call from him, Shintaro (Oizumi) heads to Hokkaido to investigate a certain case. There, he meets Minami's first love, Nagisa Ivanova (Miyazawa). Nagisa, a world-renowned engineer genius, is being pursued by a mysterious organization and, feeling his life is in danger, seeks asylum in the United States. Minami and Shintaro tackle the case together with Izumi Godou (Nagase), newly dispatched FBI agent Clyde Yun (Rowoon), and a joint team of the CIA and Hokkaido Prefectural Police, but information is leaked by an insider and they are attacked. Now in a desperate situation, can the two protect their loved ones and solve the case? The story unfolds.
