Filming for the movie "Bayside Shakedown NEW" (directed by Katsuyuki Motohiro, to be released in autumn 2026), starring actor Yuji Oda, began in October.
The first day of filming began early in the morning in the pouring rain in the heart of Shinjuku, Tokyo. As around 400 extras waited, the rain continued to fall, and at one point it looked as if filming would be halted. However, a miracle occurred: the rain stopped the moment Oda appeared wearing his trademark Aoshima coat.
Filming began with a scene in which Oda, dressed as Aoshima Shunsaku, runs through the streets of Shinjuku while being chased by 400 extras, and stills that convey the excitement of the scene have been released.
Since its debut as a TV series in 1997, the "Bayside Shakedown" series has set itself apart from previous detective dramas, portraying the vertical divisions, hierarchical relationships, and human drama within the police force, sparking a social phenomenon. When the film "Bayside Shakedown THE MOVIE" was released the following year in 1998, it became a massive hit, grossing over 10 billion yen at the box office. The second film, "Bayside Shakedown THE MOVIE 2: Shut Down the Rainbow Bridge!", released in 2003, grossed 17.35 billion yen at the box office, and even now, more than 20 years later, it remains the top-grossing live-action Japanese film of all time.

I love "Bayside Shakedown." I had said that if there was another "Odoru" I would play him when I was about Kazuhisa's age, and now I'm actually playing him at a very similar age. In this production, I play Aoshima for the first time in 13 years, and while I was a little nervous, I was able to approach filming surprisingly calmly. When filming started, there was a possibility that rain would have to be used to cancel filming, but the sun came out just before the start of the shoot, and I felt that such good fortune was typical of "Odoru." We've kept you waiting for quite some time, but "Odoru" is finally returning! I want to do it in a relaxed manner, so I hope everyone will come to the cinema and relax.

The series came to an end with "Bayside Shakedown THE FINAL: A New Hope," but in an era when it's difficult to produce hit films, many people saw "Muroi Shinji: The Unvanquished/The Surviving One," which was released last year, and it made me realize once again that the "Bayside Shakedown" series was a truly strong work that was unlike any other.
Filming started without incident the other day, and Aoshima looks just as healthy and energetic in his coat, with the same aura as he did back then. The moment he stood in front of the camera, I felt like he was "back!" In this film, Aoshima remains the same as the generations around him change, and the story is about a person who "keeps things going." We will do our best to create an entertainment piece that will make you laugh and cry, in the style of "Bayside Shakedown," and that can be enjoyed by everyone, from children to adults.
