In episode 19, on the day Nishikori takes his exam, Toki (Takaishi) and Ginjiro ( Kanichiro) are seeing him off when Shoda arrives. Ginjiro introduces him to Toki, saying, "This is Shoda. We'll be taking the exam together. He's also a brilliant student from Matsue, just like Nishikori."
Toki asks if Shoda is as "great as Nishikori," to which Shoda laughs, "I'm not even half as good as Nishikori. So instead of being great, you can call me 'a little less than half'."
Takichi Shoda is a talented young man from Matsue and a friend of Yuichi Nishikori (played by Ryo Yoshizawa). Compared to the "great powerhouse" Nishikori, Takichi describes himself as "a little less than half as powerful."
Hama, who will be playing the role, gained attention for his role as Lupin Blue/Yoimachi Touma in the Super Sentai series "Kaitou Sentai Lupinranger VS Keisatsu Sentai Patranger" (TV Asahi, 2018-19), and has also appeared in NHK's "Yorudora" (Evening Drama) "Futari wa Koisenu" and the Taiga drama "The 13 Lords of the Shogun" (both 2022). In the Asadora"Maiagare!" (Mai Up!) to be aired in the second half of 2022, he played Nakazawa Shinichi, a classmate of the heroine Mai (Haruka Fukuhara) at aviation school.
Hama's appearance attracted attention, and "Lupin Blue" briefly trended on X. On social media, comments included, "Isn't that Lupin Blue, or rather, Nakazawa student from the flight school?", "I thought there was another quirky guy, and it was Lupin Blue," "I thought I'd seen him somewhere before, and it's Nakazawa student!", "He has a different vibe from when he was wearing glasses in 'Fly Up!'," "He gives off such a different impression that I didn't recognise him at first, lol," and "A new handsome guy has appeared! Apparently he's from a Sentai series... a feast for the eyes this morning."
