The Japanese trailer for Disney Animation's "Zootopia 2" (directed by Jared Bush, released December 5th) featuring notable new characters was released on October 23rd.
This film is the sequel to "Zootopia," which was released in 2016. The previous film, "Zootopia," was set in Zootopia, a world where animals live in a high-tech civilized society like humans. It depicted Judy meeting Nick and overcoming many challenges together as she grows into a fine police officer. It was the first Disney animation film since "Frozen" to surpass $1 billion in global box office revenue. It was also a huge hit in Japan, grossing over 7.6 billion yen.
In the sequel, Nick, who has successfully graduated from the police academy and become a police officer, and Judy, the first rabbit police officer to do her job, team up again and embark on an epic adventure. A new character, Gary the snake, also appears.
In the Japanese version, actress Aya Ueto will voice the rabbit police officer Judy, just like in the previous film, and voice actor Toshiyuki Morikawa will voice the fox Nick. In addition, voice actor Hiro Shimono has been chosen to play Gary, the wanted snake who holds the key to Zootopia's biggest mystery.
The newly released footage shows Judy and Nick, who have just become official police buddies, approaching Zootopia's greatest mystery. Chief Bogo assigns the two with the task of tracking down Gary the Snake, a wanted criminal. They are skeptical, as Zootopia is supposed to be home to only mammals, and there is no way a snake like an insect could exist there. However, things change when Gary the Snake suddenly appears at a party attended by Zootopia's influential figures, where they dress up and infiltrate. What is Gary's purpose...? The footage also includes a new character, Paubert, who appears before Judy at the party. Paubert is a gentle and sociable lynx heir from the family that founded Zootopia. He calls himself a fan of Judy, who saved Zootopia in the previous film, and sympathizes with Judy's desire to make the world a better place, offering to cooperate with the investigation. There are also a few lines in the video, which show how Paubert will affect Judy and Nick's relationship, and it will be interesting to see who will voice him in the Japanese version.
Judy and Nick pursue the fugitive snake Gary, leading them to a new part of Zootopia while becoming the ones being chased.
