The final ninth volume of Akihiro Ito's gun action manga "Wilderness" was released on October 17th, bringing it to a close. The series began serialization in "Sunday GX" (Shogakukan) in 2000, and went on hiatus in 2009 due to Ito's illness. After about 13 years, the series resumed in 2021. After returning to the series, Ito wrote with his left hand, which is his non-dominant hand, until the end.
Ito commented, "It's the end. Thanks to all the readers for your hard work. We've got a generous selection of guns, from old ones to the latest models. We've also got cars, motorbikes and Cessnas to bring back from the vaults. Look forward to the final episode of Wilderness. See you again someday, somewhere."
To celebrate the completion of the series, the online manga service Sunday Webry is running a free campaign offering volumes 1 to 7 of the manga until October 26th.
"Wilderness" is a story about a university student, Serima, a runaway girl, Ena, and a private detective, Horita, who are caught up in a conspiracy and go on the run. It began serialization in "Sunday GX" in 2000 and ended in July 2025.
