A special documentary program about the rock band Kai Band, "Kai Band Documentary: 50th Anniversary Kai Band Theory," will be broadcast and streamed on WOWOW on October 19th. Prior to the program, details of the documentary and the experts from various fields who will appear as "witnesses" were made public.
Kai Band celebrated their 50th anniversary last November and has been working on an anniversary project for the past year. They have been performing on the live house circuit and on a nationwide hall tour, and released their new original album, "Noir Midnight," in June of this year. To culminate the project, they will be holding "Kai Band 50TH ANNIVERSARY 1 Million Dollar Night" at Nippon Budokan on November 8th.
The program, titled "Kai Band Theory," sheds light on the past and present of the Kai Band through a collage of the latest footage from their nationwide tour and legendary live performances, and weaves together valuable testimonies from band members, associates, and experts.
Members Yoshihiro Kai, Hideo Matsufuji, and Ichiro Tanaka talk about the band's 50-year history. Support members Tomotsune Maeno, Shigeru Okazawa, Masahiro Inaba, and Yoshifumi Yoshida (TRICERATOPS) share stories that reveal how the Kai Band continues to evolve musically.
The conversation covers the legendary Hanazono Rugby Stadium concert that was interrupted, the episode following THE BIG GIG at Shinjuku Metropolitan Government No. 5, and the annual end-of-year concert at Nippon Budokan. They also talk about their feelings toward the late original member Omori Nobukazu, how Tanaka officially joined the band, and the "mystery" of the band's ongoing arrangements that they showcased on tour.
The experts from various fields who will appear on the program as "witnesses" are as follows (in alphabetical order, titles omitted): Osamu Akimoto (manga artist), Ichio Otsuka (illustrator), Ryo Kaizu (president of Rockin' On Japan), Takeshi Kamewada (author), Takeo Nakanishi (representative of Disk Garage), Moto Hagio (manga artist), Kenta Hagiwara (music critic), and Eiichiro Funakoshi (actor).
"Kai Band Documentary - 50th Anniversary of Kai Band Theory" will be broadcast and streamed on WOWOW Live and WOWOW On Demand from 6:00 PM on October 19th.
Additionally, the concert at Nippon Budokan will be broadcast live on WOWOW Live and WOWOW On Demand from 5pm on November 8th under the title "Live Broadcast! Kai Band 50th Anniversary Million Dollar Night at Nippon Budokan." Prior to the live broadcast, "Kai Band Documentary - 50th Anniversary 'Kai Band Theory'" will be broadcast and streamed from 4pm on the same day.
