Motoyasu Tamada, the 91-year-old leader of the male chorus group "Bonnie Jacks," will appear on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi), which will air at 1:00 p.m. on October 16th.
Bonnie Jacks, a popular male chorus group after the war alongside the Dark Ducks and the Duke Aces, was formed by members of the Waseda University Glee Club. They won the Japan Record Award for Children's Songs with their hit nursery rhyme "Chiisai Aki Mitsuketa" (I Found a Little Autumn), performed at the NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen, and had a huge hit with "Te no Hira wo Taiyo ni" (Asadora Te no Hira wo Taiyou ni ), which was also featured in the NHK morning drama " Anpan " that aired until September. Before long, they were known as "Bonnie of Nursery Rhymes."
Her chorus activities were going well, but members died one after another, concerts were cancelled due to self-restraint measures in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and her agency went bankrupt at the age of 88. She was thinking of retiring from singing, but after receiving encouragement from those around her who told her "You can still sing, right?", she decided to make her "solo debut" at the age of 90. She has been working at a nursing home since she was 85, and now works four days a week. Her work involves cleaning and teaching singing, but because it is a physically demanding job, she says it builds up stamina, which has a positive effect on both her health and her singing.
