It has been announced that the anime "ALL YOU NEED IS KILL," based on the science fiction novel by Hiroshi Sakurazaka, will be released in theaters nationwide from January Getsuku, 2026, including Shinjuku Wald 9 (Shinjuku, Tokyo). A key visual has been released, depicting the main character, Rita, fighting with an unknown creature on her back.
The official trailer has also been released on YouTube. The video begins with Rita's memorable line, "Death is actually an ally," which is also the film's catchphrase, and depicts a scene in which the protagonist, Rita, is trapped in a time loop after an invasion by an unknown creature (Dalol), in which upon death, she is sent back to the morning of that day with all her memories intact. The trailer also includes a scene in which Rita meets Cage, who is also trapped in the same time loop. This fateful encounter triggers a major change in Rita's heart.
"All You Need Is Kill" was made into a Hollywood movie starring Tom Cruise in 2014, and the manga by Takeshi Obata, known for works such as "Death Note," also gained popularity. The anime reconstructs the story from a new perspective different from the original novel and the live-action film. Rita is trapped in a time loop due to an extraterrestrial invasion, where if she dies, she will be sent back to the morning of that day. No one understands her, and the seemingly endless battle eats away at her heart. At that time, Cage appears before Rita, telling her, "I too... am repeating this day over and over again," and the two have a fateful encounter. Focusing on the inner world of a woman named Rita, the story depicts her loneliness and suffering, her meeting with Cage, and her growth.
The film will be directed by Kenichiro Akimoto, who has worked on "Berserk: The Golden Age Arc," "Harmony," and "Poupelle of Chimney Town," and produced by STUDIO4℃, which has worked on "Tekkonkinkreet" and "Children of the Sea. " Ai Mikami will play Rita, and Natsuki Hanae will play Cage, with Kana Hanazawa, Hikorohee, and Mou Chugakusei also appearing as voice actors.
