Actress Hama Yumeko, who will turn 90 at the end of this month, will appear on Kuroyanagi Tetsuko's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi), which will be broadcast at 1:00 p.m. on October 13th.
Recently, she had thought about writing a will as part of her end-of-life preparations, but a certain incident caused her to give up. She joined the Takarazuka Revue at the age of 18 and rose to the top of the female roles. After leaving the troupe, she became a successful stage actor. She met Ichikawa En'o, who was then known as Ichikawa Danko, as a co-star on stage. She married and had a son, Teruyuki, but her husband suddenly left home, and they divorced three years later.
She laughed as she recalled that she worked hard to raise her son, leaving him feeling lonely, and would only catch insects on location. The biggest shock came from the blue when her son, at age 46, decided to enter the world of Kabuki with his grandson. She reunited with her ex-husband for the first time in over 40 years, but he passed away two years ago at the age of 83. She heard that among his belongings were a large number of photographs of Hama. She spoke with a smile about her feelings for her family and her 90 years of life.
