The series is a "manga x high school girl coming-of-age story" that began serialization in Gessan (Shogakukan) in 2021. It depicts a high school girl who is fascinated by manga, forming a manga study group with her friends, and struggling to find what she wants to draw. The protagonist, Yasumi, is a first-year high school student who lives on Izu Ojima, an island off the coast of Tokyo, and loves reading manga. After a certain incident, she begins to think about drawing manga.
◇Comment from Director Hiroaki Akagi
I have been involved in middle school romance anime for the past few years, but this time I feel that depicting "manga love" is a challenging and refreshing experience.
"Kore Kaite Shine" has been selected for many prestigious awards. I am honored to be able to draw this work as an animation.
Reading this work reminds me of the various manga that captivated me as a boy. As someone who still dreams of becoming a manga artist, I can really relate to it and have learned a lot from it.
When I first met Toyoda-sensei, I asked him if he had any requests for the anime adaptation, and he replied, "I want the island's nature to be depicted beautifully," and I was tasked with figuring out how to beautifully depict Izu-Ojima, where the main characters spend their time.
I went to Izu Oshima, the model for the film, to do some research and experience the island's lifestyle, history, culture, and nature. The scenery of the town, port, and mountains became very dear to me and was very helpful in creating the images.
All of our staff will continue to work hard to create great videos so that "Kore Kaite Shine" will continue to be a work that will be loved for a long time, across generations. Please look forward to the anime "Kore Kaite Shine." Thank you.
