It has been announced that the popular band Spitz will be performing the opening theme "Protecting the Light" for season 3 of the TV anime "SPY×FAMILY." "Protecting the Light" is a newly written song, marking the first time Spitz has written an opening theme for an anime. The opening video will be produced by Natsume Shingo, known for anime such as "Space☆Dandy" and "Sonny Boy." Ahead of the broadcast of season 3, a creditless version of the opening video has been released on YouTube.
Masamune Kusano of Spitz commented, "SPY×FAMILY is fun with its cute and comical depictions, but there is a sense of sadness that always runs deep within the story, and I wanted to create a song that doesn't shy away from that. What's more, I wanted the overall vector of the song to ultimately point towards hope. Some people might find the combination of Spitz and SPY×FAMILY surprising, but I hope that it fits in well with the work."
"SPY×FAMILY" is a manga by Tatsuya Endo that began serialization on Shueisha's manga app "Shonen Jump+" in March 2019. The story follows a skilled spy who starts a new life with a temporary family for his mission. The father is a spy, the daughter has psychic powers, and the mother is an assassin, all living together while hiding their true identities. The first season of the TV anime aired from April to June 2022, the second season from October to December 2022, and season 2 from October to December 2023. The animated film "Spy × Family Code: White" was released in December 2023 and was a huge hit, grossing over 6.32 billion yen. The comic series has sold over 38 million copies in total.
Season 3 will be broadcast on TV Tokyo from 11:00 PM on October 4th. Rira Ikuta will be performing the ending theme "Actor."
