It has been announced that a new series of the TV anime "Blue Lock," based on the soccer manga currently being serialized in "Weekly Shonen Magazine" (Kodansha), will be produced. It will be a sequel to the second season of the TV anime, "Blue Lock VS. U-20 JAPAN," which aired from October to December 2024. It has also been revealed that "Blue Lock" will be made into a live-action movie that will be released in the summer of 2026, the year of the World Cup. The live-action movie will be produced by CREDEUS, the production company behind "Kingdom," "Golden Kamuy," and "National Treasure."
Regarding the new TV anime series, original author Muneyuki Kaneshiro commented, "A sequel has been confirmed!!! Yay... Thank you, Egoist production team...! This marks a new start for Kiyoshi and us! We will be making this with our egos fully open, our eyes spinning, and our tongues hanging loose, so please wait on your knees!"
Yusuke Nomura, who is in charge of the illustrations for the original work, said, "It's finally been announced! A new anime series!! The 'New Hero Wars' will finally be made into a movie. Please look forward to seeing the exploits of these overseas characters, who are even more eccentric than the members of ' Blue Lock Lock'!!"
Information was also announced regarding new visuals for the "Blue Lock Exhibition EGOIST EXHIBITION the animation Extra Time," an exhibition currently touring the country. To commemorate the start of the second half of the nationwide tour, silhouette visuals of eight characters, which appear to be new character illustrations, have been released. Further information on these visuals will be announced at the end of October.
"Blue Lock" has been serialized in "Weekly Shonen Magazine" since 2018. It is the start of a national project called Blue Lock(Blue Prison) to create an "absolute ace striker" who can lead Japan to victory in the FIFA World Cup, and 300 high school students are gathered together to fight. The unique characters and innovative setting of the battle royale between the 300 strikers as they fight for survival have made it a hit. The comic has sold over 50 million copies worldwide.
The first season of the TV anime aired from October 2022 to March 2023. The spin-off, Blue Lock: Episode Nagi, was adapted into a feature film, Blue Lock: Episode Nagi, which was released in April 2024 and became a hit, grossing 1.8 billion yen and attracting over 1.32 million viewers. The second season of the TV anime aired from October to December 2024 on TV Asahi's IMANimation anime slot.
