The theme song for Fuji TV's Wednesday 10pm drama "Moshigaku," written by Koki Mitani and starring Masaki Suda, which starts on October 1st (Wednesdays at 10pm, with the first episode extended by 30 minutes), has been decided to be a new song written by music unit YOASOBI, "Gekijo." This is the first time YOASOBI has provided a song for a drama series, and it also features composer Ayase's first vocal participation, a new attempt.
The drama is a youth ensemble drama set in Shibuya in 1984, and is a completely original story that includes semi-autobiographical elements from Mitani. It depicts the struggles, setbacks, and sometimes romances of young people who are still new to the city in a corner of Shibuya, a bustling center of youth culture, in the full "Mitani world." This is Mitani's first prime-time drama series in 25 years, and it will be directed by Nishiura Masaki, known for "Code Blue" and other works.
Suda plays the main character, Kube Mitsunari, a theater troupe director who dreams of success, Nikaido Fumi plays the mysterious dancer Koda Rika, Ryunosuke Kamiki plays Horai Shogo, a new broadcast writer based on the "young Mitani," and Hamabe Minami plays Egashira Juri, a shrine maiden at Happun Shrine, a quiet shrine located in Shibuya.
YOASOBI is a group that turns novels into music, and this "Gekijo" was also based on Mitani's autobiographical novel "Theater Story." The sound source will be unveiled for the first time during the first broadcast on October 1st.

I am extremely honored to have been able to be involved in this work through its music. I was excited while creating the music, and I am looking forward to seeing how the drama will turn out.
"Gekijo" is based on an autobiographical novel written by Mitani. I was determined to give my all to support the drama, so I made it with enthusiasm. I read the script many times beforehand, and recorded the song many times. I checked the mix many times, and rewrote the lyrics many times. I also faced Shakespeare's idea that "the world is a stage, and all men are actors," and thought about it a lot, and encountered many difficulties, but I'm satisfied that I was able to finally come up with an answer that can be presented to the current YOASOBI. I hope you enjoy it along with the drama.

When I first heard the demo, I was overwhelmed by the thought of what a luxurious time I was being able to witness. The drama is set in 1984, and tells the story of people struggling to make ends meet, but the song makes me think that we in 2025 are no different in that we're all living our lives to the fullest every day. It's stylish and cool, but the scent that comes from this song is of earthiness, sweat, and that human scent. An ending video that matches the theme song has also been recorded. I hope you'll watch it along with the song!
