Shingo Fujimori of the comedy duo "Oriental Radio," who turned 42, appeared on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi), which aired on September 16th. He talked about how he met his wife, who is 15 years younger than him and whom he married last year, their marriage, and their newlywed life.
He met his wife at a dinner party with acquaintances. "It was a fairly flashy, slightly frivolous party in Roppongi, but we met there, and after going out to dinner and on several dates, she started to ask me what I was going to do," he reveals. "I was fidgeting, but she said something like, 'You're over 40, so you still think you have a chance, and that you're popular, don't you?' She said, 'I feel this way about you, so you should make up your mind,' and I said, 'Yes, I'd be happy to meet you.' And so we got married."
He got married in April last year and had his wedding ceremony in June. "Being a cool guy, we had a wine party. I really wanted to have the wedding in Hawaii. My partner Atchan (Atsuhiko Nakata) came too, and it was just a family affair, but I really wanted to invite my partner," he said.
My life has changed completely since I was single. My wife is working very hard to raise our daughter, who was born last November. I wanted to work together as much as possible, so we had many discussions about what would be best for us, and we recently came to a decision. My wife told me, "You work so hard at your job, it's wonderful. At home, I just want you to follow my instructions and do what you want."
Sometimes when he tries to put into practice something he has researched himself, his wife will say, "Oh, don't do that on your own," and he will respond with, "Yes." He said about his usual behavior, "I take action immediately when my wife tells me to. The most important thing is to take action as soon as I'm told to. Even if I'm relaxing on the sofa, if she tells me to do something, I'll get up quickly."
