It has been announced that the TV anime "Oni no Hanayome," based on the popular light novel by Kureha, will be broadcast in 2026. The main cast has also been announced, with Saori Hayami playing Shinonome Yuzuko, an ordinary girl who lives a life unloved by her family, and Yuichiro Umehara playing Kiryuin Reiya, the next head of the demon clan that holds the top position among the ayakashi.
The announcement was made at the online event "Aniplex Online Fest 2025," held on September 13. Hayami commented, "Yuzu's heart changes little by little after meeting Reiya. I hope to carefully express those delicate fluctuations and warmth through my voice. Please look forward to the anime adaptation!"
Umehara said, "Reiya has overwhelming power and appears cold-hearted at first glance, but I think he is a fascinating character because of the inner conflict he has and the kindness he shows towards Yuzu. I will do my best to play him as he lives in the world of 'The Demon Bride,' where demons and monsters coexist with humans, so I hope you will enjoy the role."
A new visual by Colored Pencil Animation Japan, the anime's production company, has been released. It depicts Yuzu with a somewhat melancholic look, and Reiya embracing her from behind as if he wants to monopolize her. A teaser PV has also been released on YouTube.
The story is set in a world where humans and ayakashi coexist, and tells the story of Shinonome Yuzuko, an ordinary high school student living an unfortunate life, who meets Kiryuin Reiya, a demon who stands at the top of the ayakashi world, and is chosen to be his bride... It's a "Japanese-style ayakashi Cinderella story." The total number of copies of the light novel and comic series published has exceeded 5.8 million, and the series has gained popularity.
