Entertainer Masaaki Sakai will be appearing on NHK's music program "SONGS" (General) on September 11th at 10pm. Sakai, currently 79 years old, will be the oldest person to appear for the first time. During the studio talk, Sakai, who is a "great senior," repeatedly criticized the host Yo Oizumi mercilessly, and at one point Oizumi revealed his true feelings, saying, "It's never been this difficult to host!"
The program will look back on his golden age with rare footage, including the 1960s when he was active as a member of The Spiders, a pioneer of the GS (group sounds) boom, and the 1970s when he was a solo singer and had hits such as "Sayonara Koibito" and "City Lights," and when he produced his signature works as an actor, such as "It's Time" and "Journey to the West."
Mickey Yoshino and Shishido Kavka from "Masaaki Sakai to MAGNETS," a band formed last year by Sakai with the intention of forming "the last band of his life," also appeared in the studio for a talk. Together with the band members, who will be reuniting for the first time in 54 years since the Spiders, Sakai will talk about his current state of mind and what he wants to do in the future.
He will also perform a medley of The Spiders' hits "Bang Bang Bang," "The Sunset is Crying," and "You Were Young at That Time." He will also perform his signature song as a solo singer, "City Lights," and "Tiger & Dragon" as Masaaki Sakai to MAGNETS.
