Stills from the film "5 Centimeters per Second" (directed by Okuyama Yoshiyuki, set to premiere on October 10th), starring Matsumura Hokuto, have been released. They show Takaki (Matsumura) standing in front of a railroad crossing amidst falling cherry blossoms, and Akari (Takahata Mitsuki) gazing off into the distance.
This live-action film is based on the 2007 animated film of the same name directed by Makoto Shinkai. Takaki (Yuto Ueda) and Akari (Noa Shirayama) met in 1991 as elementary school students and gradually began to bond as they gently reached out to each other in their loneliness. In 1997, Takaki (Yuzu Aoki) spent his time absent-mindedly on Tanegashima, while Hanae (Yuzu Aoki), who had feelings for Takaki, was in high school. Then in 2009, Takaki (Hokuto Matsumura) spent his days secluded in Tokyo, without any deep connections to others, while Akari (Mitsuki Takahata) lives her daily life with memories of those days. This film depicts the encounters between these two people who have lived through 18 years at different speeds, and their precious ones.
This time, photos of memorable scenes from the original animation have been released, such as a memorable scene of the two young boys blowing bubbles in front of cherry blossoms in full bloom, their reunion at Iwafune Station in Tochigi in the freezing winter, Hanae and Takaki looking up at the rocket launch on Tanegashima, and Hanae surfing. Also released were original scenes from the live-action version, including a scene where Takaki talks with Ogawa (Hidetaka Yoshioka), the director of the science museum, and Hanae's older sister Midori (Aoi Miyazaki) and Akari smiling under the cherry blossoms.
