To commemorate the release of the latest 8th volume of the manga "Girl Meets Rock!" (Futsuu no Keionbu), which is currently being serialized on Shueisha's manga app "Shonen Jump+" on September 4th, it has been revealed that a special visual has been created using Kenshi Yonezu's song "Umi to Salamander" as its motif. The visual, which combines the lyrics of "Umi to Salamander" with scenes from the work, will be displayed as a transit advertisement at Tokyo Station and Umeda Station from September 1st to 7th.
The latest volume, volume 8, concludes the live performance showdown between the protagonist's band, Heart Break, and the rival band, Protocol. Among the stories included, Chapter 69, in which Protocol's vocalist, Noriyuki Takami, performs Kenshi Yonezu's song, "Umi to Sanzao" (Sea and Salamander), while remembering his brother, Ryuuki, has garnered a huge response since its update, surpassing 900,000 views. This significantly surpasses the series' highest weekly view count. In response to this, a special visual was created.
To commemorate the release of the new volume, a special edition of the series was published in the 40th issue of "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha), released on September 1st. It depicts the members of "Heart Break" introducing their club activities at a school information session for junior high school students.
"Girl Meets Rock!" began publishing in January 2023 on Jump Rookie! and on author Kuwahali's X (@kuwahali). With illustrations by Deuchi Tetsuo, the series began serialization in Shonen Jump+ in January 2024. It follows Chihiro Hatono, a high school freshman with a penchant for mellow Japanese rock, as she joins the light music club she's always dreamed of. Through her band activities, she tackles her challenges and grows as a guitarist and vocalist, and as a high school student. It has been generating buzz, winning first place in the web manga category of the Next Manga Awards 2024, second place in This Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2025, and third place in the Manga Awards 2025.
