"Chihayafuru -Meguri-" Episode 7 Synopsis Released

The drama series "Chihayafuru -Meguri-" (NTV, Wednesdays at 10pm) starring actress Ami Touma has released a synopsis and stills for episode 7, which will air on August 20th.

With just a few days until the Tokyo preliminaries for the Competitive High School Karuta Championship, Meguru (Touma) and the rest of the Umezono Karuta Club, who are aiming for Omi Shrine, are finally in the final stretch of practice.

Meanwhile, a TV crew comes to interview the Mizusawa High School Karuta Club, a top contender for the championship. When asked about their motivation for joining the club, the new members say that they had a strong admiration for Nagi (Nanoka Hara) and were overwhelmed by the invitations to join.

Sumire Hanano (Suzu Hirose), an alumna, has been put in charge of the Karuta Club in place of the current advisor, Chihaya Ayase (Hirose Suzu). She recalls that Chihaya had once enthusiastically invited her to join, and she sees Chihaya in Nagi, saying, "She's just like Ayase-senpai." When she spots an unfamiliar face among the new members, she realizes it's Riki Yakumo (Sakamoto Aito) wearing Mizusawa's uniform.

Meanwhile, at the suggestion of Sota (Soma Santoki), Umezono begins scouting other schools in preparation for the Tokyo preliminaries. In order for Umezono, who is inferior in ability, to win the preliminaries, he has no choice but to gather as much data as possible from other schools and formulate a strategy, rather than going head-to-head. Now that Oe Kanade (Mone Kamishiraishi) has gone to Kyoto, Sota says he is the only one who can do this, so he retires from playing and volunteers to take on the role of manager. Wanting to fulfill Sota's wish to focus on working behind the scenes at his final high school tournament, Megu and the others split up and go to other schools for training sessions to gather information.

Nagi is also interviewed on television and talks about how she started playing karuta, including her meeting with Chihaya and bitter memories of her childhood friend Megu.

With each of them holding their own thoughts in their hearts, the Tokyo qualifying round finally begins. The person who appeared at the opening ceremony was the master, Arata Wataya (Mackenyu). What did the master have to say?

"Chihayafuru" is a manga by Yuki Suetsugu that was serialized in "BE・LOVE" (Kodansha) from 2007 to 2022. The story follows Ayase Chihaya, who awakens to the charms of competitive karuta after meeting transfer student Arata, and becomes passionate about the game alongside her childhood friend Mashima Taichi and the other unique members of the karuta club. The drama is an original story set 10 years after the trilogy of films "Kami no Ku" and "Shimo no Ku" in 2016 and "Musubi" in 2018.
