According to the August 15-17 movie attendance rankings (surveyed by Kogyo Tsushinsha) released on August 18, the new film adaptation of the popular anime "Koyoharu Gotouge: Kimetsu Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Yaiba" series, "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Yaiba the Movie: Infinity Castle Arc Chapter 1: Akaza Returns" (directed by Haruo Tonozaki), based on the popular manga by Koyoharu Gotouge, topped the list for the fifth consecutive week. Over the three-day weekend, it attracted approximately 1,218,000 viewers and grossed approximately ¥1.875 billion. Cumulative totals reached 18.27 million viewers and ¥25.7 billion. In terms of all-time box office revenue, it surpassed "Your Name." (released in 2016, ¥25.17 billion) and "Frozen" (released in 2014, ¥25.5 billion), placing it fourth behind "Titanic" (released in 1997, ¥27.77 billion).
Among the debut films, "Yukikaze" (directed by Toshihisa Yamada), a film based on the historical facts of a destroyer during the Pacific War, ranked sixth. In the three days since its release on August 15, it attracted approximately 233,000 viewers and recorded box office revenue of approximately 315 million yen.
As in the previous week, "Jurassic World: Resurrection" (directed by Gareth Edwards) came in second, attracting approximately 445,000 people over the three-day weekend and grossing approximately 697 million yen. Cumulative totals for the film were approximately 1.96 million people and approximately 3 billion yen, making it the fastest foreign film released this year to surpass the 3 billion yen mark.
Coming in third place was "National Treasure" (directed by Lee Sang-il), which rose from fifth place the previous week despite only being in its 11th week of release. Over the three-day weekend, it drew an audience of approximately 365,000 and grossed approximately ¥544 million. With a cumulative total of 7.47 million viewers and grossed over ¥10.5 billion, it now ranks third among all-time Japanese live-action box office earners, behind "Bayside Shakedown 2: Close Down the Rainbow Bridge!" (released in 2003, approximately ¥17.35 billion) and "Antarctica" (released in 1983, approximately ¥11 billion).
In fourth place is the theatrical release "TOKYO MER: The Running Emergency Room - Nankai Mission" (directed by Matsuki Aya), which attracted approximately 352,000 people over the three-day weekend and grossed approximately 489 million yen. Cumulatively, it has attracted 2.44 million people and grossed over 3.2 billion yen. Crayon Shin-chan the Movie: Super Hot! The Spicy Kasukabe Dancers(directed by Hashimoto Masakazu) came in fifth place, attracting approximately 246,000 people over the three-day weekend and grossing approximately 309 million yen. Cumulatively, it has attracted approximately 1.06 million people and grossed approximately 1.3 billion yen.
