The poster visual for the film "5 Centimeters per Second" (directed by Okuyama Yoshiyuki, scheduled for release on October 10th), starring Matsumura Hokuto, has been released. The meaningful visual shows Tono Takaki, played by Matsumura, and Shinohara Akari, played by Takahata Mitsuki, facing in different directions, and will be displayed in theaters nationwide as posters and flyers from August 22nd.
This live-action film is an adaptation of the 2007 anime film of the same name directed by Makoto Shinkai. It depicts the protagonist Tono Takaki's 18-year life journey, from his youthful days as an elementary school student when he met transfer student Shinohara Akari and bonded with her, to his high school years on Tanegashima after being separated from Akari upon graduation, to his youth as he approaches 30, when he works as a systems engineer in Tokyo and feels a vague sense of stagnation and frustration.
The cast surrounding Takaki and Akari has also been announced. Takashi Okabe will play Takashi Okabe, Takaki's boss who works at the same software development company as Matsumura's character, while Aoi Nakata will play Asami Kaneko, his colleague, Kentaro Tamura will play Junki Tozuka, and Sho Hasumi (Dow 90000) will play Yasushi Ohno.
Naoki Matayoshi will play Shibata Osamu, the manager of Kinokuniya Bookstore in Shinjuku where Akari, played by Mitsuki Takahata, works, Keiko Horiuchi will play Keiko Horiuchi, a store clerk, and Himi Sato will play Ohashi Junto, a part-time store clerk. Ayana Shiramoto will play Sunasaka Shoko, a close friend of Hanae (Nana Mori), who has feelings for Takaki, and who lives on Tanegashima, where Takaki spent his high school days.
It was also revealed that a three-way discussion between lead actor Matsumura, director Okuyama, and original author Shinkai will be streamed on Toho's official YouTube channel. It will be streamed from 6pm each day for three weeks on September 26th, October 3rd, and October 10th. A teaser video released earlier revealed the words of Matsumura and Director Okuyama, as well as Director Shinkai's impressions after seeing the film.
