A preview of the new animated feature film "ChaO" (directed by Aoki Yasuhiro, due for release on August 15th) from STUDIO4℃, known for such anime as "Tekkonkinkreet" and "Children of the Sea," has been released. The film is set in a future society where humans and mermaids coexist, and depicts the romance between the human Stefan and the mermaid Chao. The footage shows MyBey, a caring older sister who watches over the couple's love, and Roberta, Stefan's friend and inventor. Suddenly, a battle breaks out between MyBey and Roberta, leading to some incredible action. Shishido Kavka plays MyBey, and Yuichiro Umehara plays Roberta.
Chao and MyBey visit Roberta's laboratory, where robotics research is being carried out, because Chao wants to learn more about the human world. However, as soon as they arrive at the lab, a battle breaks out between MyBey and Roberta for some reason. After showing off some sharp, kung fu-like action, Roberta creates a welcoming atmosphere by saying, "Take your time," while making tea, to which MyBey responds, "I'll be happy to do so." Chao is entranced by the two's perfectly synchronized exchange, exclaiming, "It's kind of wonderful." The video depicts a surreal, "warm welcome" from MyBey and Roberta.
The film is a tale of love and miracles that transcends race and culture. In a future society where humans and mermaids coexist, Stefan, an office worker at a shipbuilding company, is suddenly proposed to by Chao, the princess of the mermaid kingdom. Without understanding why, Stefan begins living with Chao. As he receives Chao's pure and straightforward love, Stefan gradually becomes attracted to her.
