"Drama 1 Week" brings you the latest drama news from the past week. This time (July 26th - August 1st), we're featuring Fukumoto Riko and Naniwa Danshi's Kyohei Takahashi starring in the WOWOW drama series "Strobe Edge."Kenjiro Tsuda 's guest appearance in the third episode (broadcast August 3rd) of Sunday Theatre's " The 19th medical record " (Sundays at 9pm), starring Jun Matsumoto , has been much talked about. We'll cover this in two parts.
On July 26th, the first behind-the-scenes featurette for the TV Asahi drama series " Revenge Spy " (Saturdays at 11pm), starring Naniwa Danshi's Kazuya Ohashi , titled " Revenge Spy Undercover Report!", began streaming on the video streaming service TELASA. The series is a romantic comedy about a young man, Sugawara Yuga (Ohashi), searching for the culprit who stole important information from his late brother (Mizobata Junpei), who falls in love with Imuta Hana (Shibuya Nagisa), the daughter of a company president who infiltrates the company as a spy to gather evidence. The behind-the-scenes featurette will provide a glimpse into the filming and reveal the cast's true faces. Ohashi and Shibuya will serve as hosts.
On the same day, it was revealed that Riko Fukumoto and Kyohei Takahashi of Naniwa Danshi will star in the upcoming WOWOW drama series "Strobe Edge," scheduled to air and stream this fall. This will be Fukumoto's first appearance in a WOWOW original drama in about four years, since "The Splendid Family" (2021), and Takahashi's first. This will be the first time for both of them to star in a lead role. The original work is the manga of the same name by Io Sakisaka, known for " Ao Haru Ride" and "I Want to Eat Your Pancreas," and this is the first time it has been adapted into a drama series. In order to carefully portray the charm of the original story, which spans 10 volumes, the series will be broadcast and streamed in two parts, Season 1 and Season 2.
On the same day, it was revealed that Kenjiro Tsuda will make a guest appearance in the third episode (airing August 3rd) of the Sunday Theatre drama " The 19th medical record " (Sundays at 9 PM), starring Jun Matsumoto . He plays a popular announcer who is diagnosed with hypopharyngeal cancer, and delivers a sensitive and realistic portrayal of the conflicts of someone whose job involves voice. Tsuda has been narrating the show since the first episode, but will finally make his appearance in the third episode. Tsuda plays Yoshikazu Hotta, a popular announcer. However, after experiencing discomfort in his throat, he visits Uotora General Hospital and is diagnosed with hypopharyngeal cancer. Surgeon Kojiro Togo ( Mackenyu ) recommends surgery, but Hotta refuses, fearing it will alter his voice, an important tool for his job.
On the 27th, the 28th episode of the NHK Taiga drama " UNBOUND (Berabou) " (General TV, Sundays at 8 PM and other stations), starring Ryusei Yokohama Ryusei, aired, featuring a "curse" scene, similar to last year's Taiga drama " To Dear Radiance (Hikaru Kimi e)." Viewers responded to the scene with a curse, following on from last year's Taiga drama. Ichi (Hio Miyazawa ) was slashed by Sano Masayoshi (Yamoto Yuma), killing Ichi before he could achieve his goals. One day, Tsutaju visited Daresode, who tried to follow Ichi but failed to die, and tried to curse Masayoshi, who had committed seppuku, and his family. "I'll avenge my enemy and come to your side," Daresode declared with a terrifying aura, eliciting comments on social media such as, "This is the second year in a row of humanities taiga dramas. This is the second year in a row of curses," and "I never thought I'd see this in an Edo taiga drama."
On the 30th, it was announced that the first broadcast date for the NHK Asadora drama "Bakebake ," starring Akari Takaishi , for the second half of 2025, has been set for September 29th. The poster visual was also released. The poster visual features Toki (Takaishi) and Heaven ( Tommy Bastow) holding hands and smiling. "Bakebake " tells the story of a couple who love "ghost stories" together with their foreign husband, and who shed light on and speak for the "nameless people" who had been buried in Meiji-era Japan as Westernization progressed. Takaishi will play the heroine, Toki Matsuno , the daughter of a fallen samurai from Matsue, modeled after Yakumo Koizumi(Lafcadio Hearn ) wife, Setsu.
On the same day, it was announced that the film adaptation of the drama series "Last Man - The Blind Investigator -" starring Fukuyama Masaharu, which aired on TBS's "Sunday Theatre" (Sundays at 9 PM) in April 2023, will be titled "Last Man -FIRST LOVE-" (directed by Hirano Shunichi, scheduled for release in December 2025). Additionally, the eight members of the drama series who supported the "invincible buddy" - King & Prince's Nagase Ren and Mio Imada, as well as Matsuo Satoru, Imai Tomohiko, Tomoya Oku Tomoya, Kimura Tae, Yoshida Yo, and Takaya Kamikawa- will reunite for the film.
