The first episode of the TV drama series "Chihayafuru -Meguri-" (Nippon TV, Wednesdays at 10pm), starring actress Ami Touma, was broadcast on July Getsuku, and the average viewership rating (according to Video Research, Kanto region, same below) was 5.2% for households and 3.2% for individuals.
"Chihayafuru" is a manga by Yuki Suetsugu that was serialized in "BE・LOVE" (Kodansha) from 2007 to 2022. The story is about Ayase Chihaya, who awakens to the charm of competitive karuta through her encounter with transfer student Wataya Arata, and becomes passionate about karuta with her childhood friend Mashima Taichi and the other unique members of the karuta club.
The novel was made into a film starring Hirose in 2016, and released as a two-part series, "Kami no Ku" and "Shimo no Ku". The final film, "Musubi", was released in 2018. This drama is an original story set 10 years after the events of the film. This is Touma's first lead role in a drama series, and he will play Aizawa Meguru, a second-year high school student and ghost member of the Umezono High School Competitive Karuta Club.
The first episode was broadcast under the title "First Poem: Encounter."
