Actor Nao Omori(53) appeared on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi) broadcast on July Getsuku. He talked about an episode with his 6-year-old daughter and about raising children.
At the age of 39, Omori married actress Yuriko Ono, who is 18 years younger than him. He became a father at the age of 47. He plays with his daughter at the park or draws pictures at home, and said with a gentle smile, "I'm going to keep my body in shape so that I don't lose to my daughter's physical strength."
Omori also does housework such as laundry and cleaning. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she bought a sewing machine and started sewing. On the show, she showed photos of bibs and doll clothes that she made, and said, "I actually like that kind of thing."
Omori-san revealed that when he was taking his daughter to and from nursery school and other parents said "Good morning," he "felt a strange happiness." He has made some daddy and mommy friends that he meets often, but said, "I never thought something like this would happen. I've never imagined having dinner with daddy friends while taking my daughter. It's so much fun to talk to people in completely different professions, and it feels so fresh."
Omori's father is Akaji Maro, an avant-garde dancer and actor. His mother was also a famous entertainer in the 1960s and 1970s. His parents lived apart from each other since he was a child, and his father only came home about once a year.
Tetsuko praised Omori, saying, "You had a very calm upbringing in that kind of environment," to which Omori confessed, "People often tell me I'm surprised you didn't rebel." He continued, "It was just too overwhelming... My father's presence was strong, and my mother was also a very strong person. So, I guess I was conscious of trying to be normal, although I'm not a good example."
