The TBS Sunday Theatre drama " The 19th medical record " starring Jun Matsumoto will start on July 13th (Sundays at 9pm). The drama depicts a new specialty, the 19th general practitioner, who finds the best treatment method based on the patient's heart and life background, and also lends a hand to their way of life as a human being. Fujiya Katsuhito, who is the creator of the original manga " The 19th medical record: Akira Tokushige's Questioning" (Zenon Comics/Core Mix, currently serialized), visited the drama's filming location.
When Fujiya stepped into the studio, he couldn't help but exclaim, "So this is what it's like!" In the examination room where Dr. Tokushige (Matsumoto), a doctor in the newly established "General Medicine Department" at Uotora General Hospital, examines patients, he exclaimed in admiration at the worldview and realism unique to the drama, saying, "In the manga, the medical office is drawn to be a little smaller, but this layout is convenient."
"Please let me use them as reference for my drawings," said Fujiya, who eagerly took photos from various angles, and was also very interested in the medical equipment on set. Afterwards, he also visited the rehearsal of a scene in which Tokushige, Takino Mizuki (played by Fuka Koshiba), and Togo Kojiro (played by Mackenyu) were all together. Fujiya watched the three performers with a serious expression, nodding occasionally. He was also seen squinting at the peaceful atmosphere on set.
Fujiya chatted with Matsumoto on the set of the doctors' lounge. When Matsumoto shared his thoughts with him, Fujiya said, "I'm looking forward to seeing how the drama will be presented and how it will be created."
Fujiya, who toured the filming location, said, "When I saw the examination room set, I was happy to see that it had everything I needed and had a somewhat nostalgic feel to it. In the manga, I vaguely imagined the examination room to be a renovated corner of the old building, so I thought that they might have captured that "corner feeling." I was honestly happy. It seems to have filled in the details that couldn't be depicted in the manga, and it's fun to see the large amount of detail that only live-action can provide."
He also pointed out that ever since the cast was announced, he felt that the world of the drama version of "The 19th medical record" was well-constructed. "When I see Matsumoto, I think, 'That's Tokushige!' And I feel that the world of this drama has been firmly established, including the appearances of Takino and Kojiro," he said.
Regarding Matsumoto's portrayal of Tokushige, he said, "When I saw him on set, I got nervous because it was too close, so I'd like to see it through the screen after all (laughs). I'm looking forward to seeing how the details, like Tokushige's speech tempo and style, turn out."
