The final results of the Sanrio character popularity poll "2025 Sanrio Character Awards" were announced on June 29th, with Pompompurin taking first place. This is the fourth time in about nine years that Pompompurin(last year's 4th place) has been chosen as number one. In second place was Cinnamoroll(last year's 1st place), and in third place was Pochacco(last year's 2nd place), with Sanrio's three biggest "dog characters" dominating the top three. Pekkle the Duck (last year's 11th place) came in 10th place, making it his first time in the top 10 in about 31 years since 1994.
In fourth place was Kuromi (third place last year), in fifth place was Hello Kitty (fifth place last year), in sixth place was My Melody (sixth place last year), in seventh place was Little Twin Stars (tenth place last year), in eighth place was Hangyodon (eighth place last year), and in ninth place was Tuxedo Sam (ninth place last year).
The Sanrio Character Awards is a public voting project for Sanrio characters that began in 1986. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the awards, and the theme was "Jump to the future with you!", with 90 characters entered. Voting took place from April 10th to May 25th.
