Akari Takaishi , an actress who is also making waves for her role as the heroine in the NHK Asadora drama series "Bakebake " in the second half of fiscal 2025, appeared at the 27th Shanghai International Film Festival held in Shanghai, China on June 21. The film "On the Summer Sand," in which she stars, was the only Japanese work to be invited, and she attended the festival with lead actor Joe Odagiri and director/scriptwriter Shinya Tamada.
Takaishi attended the awards ceremony wearing a gorgeous white Louis Vuitton dress and walked down the red carpet. "I was chosen by Director Tamada and (co-producer) Odagiri at an audition, so I'm really honored to be able to share this wonderful moment with them. Thank you very much," she said with emotion. With the film set to be released on July 4th, she said, "This is a very important work for my acting career. First of all, I want to deliver it to the Japanese people."
"On the Summer Sand" is a film adaptation of a play by Masataka Matsuda, winner of the 1999 Yomiuri Literature Prize for Drama and Scenario. It depicts a man who has lost his love, a woman who has given up on love, and a girl who has never known love, each of them finding a little hope while facing their own pain. The entire film was shot on location in Nagasaki.
