82-year-old TV personality Miyadori Utsumi appeared on Tetsuko Kuroyanagi's long-running talk show "Tetsuko's Room" (TV Asahi) broadcast on April 10th. She talked about her two favorite men, her morning routine, and more.
One of her favorites is the rakugo performer Shunputei Ichinosuke, whom she calls "Icchan." "He looks just like my father," she says. The other is singer Yoshi Ikuzo. "He has a similar vibe to Kinkin (the nickname for her husband, Aikawa Kinya, who passed away in 2015)," she explains. Utsumi says, "I'm a huge fan of these two. I always go to Yoshi's concerts, and I always go wherever I go to listen to Icchan's rakugo."
They wake up at 5am, get ready, and head out to the park. The people who gather in the park do radio exercises and drink 120 yen coffee together. In the past, they would say things like, "Where does it hurt? This hurts? My teeth hurt," and even though they were already elderly, they would worry about their old age and say things like, "I wonder if there's a good hospital somewhere."
"Now we start complimenting each other," she said. Apparently, some of the grandmothers wear makeup, and she thinks they are really pretty, and that their desire to become pretty is wonderful, so she tells them, "That's nice." "People say I have pretty skin," she said happily, and she receives compliments every day, asking, "Why is your skin so...?" They talk almost every day about how they take care of themselves and how they wash their faces. "These days we compliment each other," she said happily.
