Ryusei Yokohama plays Segawa (Hananoi/Sei) in the historical drama "UNBOUND (Berabou)" (NHK General TV, Sunday 8pm and others), starring Fuka Koshiba. In the 14th episode "Tsutajesu Segawa Married Couple Journey" that aired on April 6th, Segawa seemed to be finally going to be united with Tsutaju (Yokohama), but according to Fuka Koshiba, "I would be getting in the way of Tsutaju's dream," so she chose to step aside. Fuka Koshiba looked back on the "packing scene" in which she "couldn't stop crying" as Segawa.
"At first, I was packing to be with Tsutaju, but then I started packing to leave, and it was really painful," Ko Shibasaki revealed.
Behind this lies Segawa's choice, weighing her feelings for her beloved Tsutaju against the realization of Tsutaju's dream. As the wife of Toriyama Kengyo (Hayato Ichihara), who had built up a large fortune as a loan shark, Segawa faced strong criticism from the public.
"Even if that wasn't the case, Tsutaju had been bullied and rejected by booksellers all over Edo, so Segawa realized that having someone with a bad reputation like me beside him would be an obstacle to his dreams."
No one told him to leave Tsutae, but he chose to leave of his own accord. Koshiba spoke about the scene, saying, "It was so painful that I couldn't stop crying even after the cut was called."
"It was painful for him to step aside when there was a way to be with the person he had loved for over 10 years. But Segawa genuinely loves making books, and he really loves Tsutae, who wants to make Yoshiwara a better place, so I think he stepped aside even though it was painful and he wanted to be with her."
Ko Shibasaki also said, "Our positions and environments are so different that I can't imagine what it would be like if I were in that situation."
"Both Segawa and Tsutaju are able to sacrifice themselves for the sake of those around them. That's why those around them support them and the reason viewers wish Segawa happiness is because I think Segawa himself is someone who cares about the happiness of others and wants to make this town a better place, and is able to act on that thought no matter how painful it may be for himself. So, although I don't know if Segawa's choice was the best, I think it was the only way he could protect Tsutaju's dream."
