It has been announced that the TV anime "Watari-kun's ****** Is About to Collapse", based on the manga by Narumi Naru, who is also known for "Ramen Daisuki Koizumi-san", will be broadcast on TOKYO MX, BS Nippon TV and other stations from July. The main cast has also been announced, with Shuichiro Umeda playing Watari Naoto, Yumika Yano playing Tatehana Satsuki, and Yurie Igoma playing Ishihara Yukari. The series will be directed by Naoya Takashi and produced by Staple Entertainment.
The story is a manga serialized in "Monthly Young Magazine" (Kodansha), about a high school sophomore named Watari Naoto who, after losing his parents, has given up on romance, club activities, part-time jobs, and friendships, and puts his younger sister Suzushiro first in life. However, when his childhood friend Tatehana Satsuki transfers to the school, his peaceful daily life falls apart... The comic has sold over 1.2 million copies in total.
The original author, Narumi, commented, "Please be sure to check out the anime 'Wataru-kun,' which we bring you with fantastic visuals, music, and wonderful voices. The original work is complete, so I would be happy if you could watch the anime with the comics in hand."
Director Naotani said, "Apparently, Wataru's 'Batsubatsu' is pronounced as if he is on the verge of collapse. As always, I will be bringing this to you with Staple-sama. I wonder how Satsuki speaks? I've been wondering about that a lot lately..."
Umeda, who plays Watari Naoto, says, "Naoto is a reliable older brother, but at the same time, he also has some unreliable aspects appropriate to his age. Although he is upset by Satsuki, Suzu, and Ishihara, I hope you will sometimes laugh and sometimes cheer him on as he tries to do his best. Thank you very much for your support!"
Yano, who plays Tatehana Satsuki, said, "Satsuki shows us many different sides to her in every play - scary, kind, cute, sexy... Just like Naoto, I'm constantly being pushed around by her, but I also feel the joy of walking alongside her. I hope to cherish each and every scene so that everyone can understand Satsuki's charm. I hope you'll look forward to this story that's not just about the thrills of love, but also has a mysterious quality to it!"
Ikoma, who plays Ishihara Murasaki, said, "Murasaki is a devoted and carefree Madonna-like figure. I will do my best to play the role so that I can be a source of healing for Wataru-kun and for everyone. Please be sure to watch the story that Wataru-kun and the others weave, which is "not just a romantic comedy"! Thank you very much!"
