An advance screening of the original anime "LAZARUS" by director Shinichiro Watanabe, known for the anime "Cowboy Bebop," was held on March 7th at Shinjuku Wald 9 (Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo), with Mamoru Miyano, who plays the main character Axel, Makoto Furukawa, who plays Doug, and Yuma Uchida, who plays Leland, in attendance. When Furukawa talked about an episode he was impressed by when he recorded the first episode with Megumi Hayashibara, who plays Hirsch, Miyano revealed, "You were nervous, weren't you? The script was soaked with sweat."
Furukawa-san reflected on the recording, saying, "I was very nervous. There are sweat stains on the script for episode 1. The performance was born because of that tension." Miyano-san also said about Hayashibara-san, "What's great is that when we first entered the scene, she was there to respect our position and the atmosphere."
The story is about a team of agents from around the world, Lazarus, who are pursuing Dr. Skinner, a neuroscientist who developed a painkiller called "Hapuna" that causes death three years after taking it, in order to save humanity. Character design will be handled by Akemi Hayashi, known for "BANANA FISH," and the work will be produced by MAPPA.
In the anime, Miyano plays the main character Axel, who is imprisoned due to a certain incident but repeatedly escapes, and whose "hobby is escaping from prison." Furukawa, Uchida, Hayashibara, Uchida Maaya, Iwami Manaka, Manaka Iwami, and Akio Otsuka Koichi Yamadera appear as voice actors. The series will be broadcast on TV Tokyo affiliates every Sunday at 11:45 pm from April 6th. There will be a total of 13 episodes.
