The new cast for the NHK Asadora drama series "Bakebake ," starring actor Akari Takaishi , which will air in the second half of fiscal 2025, was announced on February 26. It was revealed that the cast members who will appear as the family of the heroine Toki (played by Takaishi), the only daughter of a fallen samurai from the Meiji period who loves ghost stories, will be Takashi Okabe as her father, Tsukasanosuke Matsuno, Chizuru Ikewaki as her mother, Fumi Matsuno, and Fumiyo Kohinata Fumiyo as her grandfather, Kanemon Matsuno.
Takaishi, who plays the heroine Toki, commented, "I am very happy to be able to work with all these people as a member of the Matsuno family and as a member of the ' Bakebake' team for about a year from now. My grandpa is always on my side, my mother is a bit of a scatterbrain but supports the Matsuno family behind the scenes, and my father is unreliable but somehow lovable. To Toki, the presence of her family is very important, and her efforts to protect them feel like a 'mission'. I can't wait to experience life in the Matsuno family, which is full of individuality and laughter!"
"Bakebake" is the story of a couple who love "ghost stories" together with their foreign husband, and who shed light on and speak for the "nameless people" who were forgotten in Meiji Japan as Westernization progressed. The script is written by Mitsuhiko Fujiki, who has worked on NHK's "Asagaya Sisters' Relaxed Life Together" and WOWOW's "Tokyu Series."
The role of Heaven, modeled after Yakumo Koizumi(Lafcadio Hearn) who later becomes Toki's husband, has been chosen to be played by British actor Tommy Bastow.
